By Frank Byronn Glenn — In a surprising decision the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to uphold not only the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act but the entirety of the bill as well. Chief Justice John Roberts unexpectedly provided the one swing vote need for the ACA to be upheld.
This was an historic vote for the Supreme Court, because the Affordable Care Act was perceived to be a landmark piece of legislation. The direct result of the law having been upheld is that 6 million young people can remain or be added to their parents healthcare plan, 32 additional Americans will have health insurance — and as many as 45,000 people who would have died this year due to lack of healthcare — now have a chance to live. Children cannot be denied healthcare due to pre-existing conditions, have a life-time cap on healthcare payments, and your healthcare insurance cannot be cancelled when you actually get sick and are going to need it — after having paid all you healthcare insurance premiums as agreed — up to the time you got sick.
By Johnnie Tremaine –– In a surprise move, the United States Supreme Court upheld the sweeping Affordable Care Act that is the legacy legislative triumph for the Obama Administration this term. That will make it possible for the nearly 45,000 people who die each year due to lack of adequate healthcare to live. And the 32 million people who would have lost or been deprived of healthcare had the Affordable Care Act was over-turned — will still have or be able to get affordable healthcare. These are major triumphs for the President Obama and the American people. And Chief Justice John Roberts, who joined democrats to provide the swing vote — has on this day answered the call for justice and voted on the side of the majority of the American people. Amazingly uplifting day!
