Category → Scott Commits Voter Suppression
If Governor Rick Scott of Florida Defies the Justice Department Directive — the DOJ Should Deny Rick Scott His Freedom!
By Robert Sexton — Let me be brief and direct in this. If Rick Scott defies the Department of Justice’s demand that it cease purging voters from its rolls in the state of Florida. I say if that is his position, then the Justice Department should arrest Rick Scott and put him in prison. Fortunately, the 67 Supervisors of Elections in Florida are apparently united in their refusal to proceed with the purges.
In our opinion, these actions of Rick Scott violate the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Voter Registration Act of 1965 — as well as the U.S. Constitution — and Scott should not only be charged with violating those laws — he should be charged with Crimes Against Democracy as well.
