Broncos Win Big -- Show Their Grit - 34-14 Over The Saints!

By Frank Byronn Glenn -- Tonight is the test to see if the comeback against San Diego Charges was a turning point in the Broncos season.  A classic Drew Brees vs Peyton Manning battle.  My bet is Peyton will pick the Saints defense apart more than Brees will succeed against the Broncos "D".  If I were Jack Del Rio and John Fox -- this would be the game where I unleashed the Denver defense on Drew Brees.  I think Denver's pressure with Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil and Derek Wolfe relentlessly will turn the game Denver's way.  No matter what happens, I think it's time Denver's defense plays like it did in the 1997 season -- gambling - blitzing -- with the quarterback scoring quickly to get points back if you got burned. .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      . 1st Quarter .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      . 1st offensive possession -- Saints go three and out, with an incomplete pass, a run, and an incomplete pass.   Broncos take over on 32 yard line.  First Offensive series. Broncos go three and out, with a run, two incomplete passes, a defensive pass interference and offensive holding on Orlando Franklin - replay third down.  Vilma pressure forces hasty throw incomplete by Manning.   Colquitt punts. .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      . New Orleans got first first down at their own 44yd line.  Derek Wolfe strips the ball, but Dumervil was off-sides. 1st and 5 for Saints.  Saints mysteriously run play clock down to nothing and have to waste a time out. .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      . Saints get their time-out back. Mark  Ingram can't turn the corner on a sweep right.  Von Miller tackles Darren Sproel in backfield.  3rd and 8 -- Sproels wide left.  Long incomplete pass and Saints must punt. .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      . Denver's 3rd offensive possession of the game - and they get the ball on the 2 or 3 yard line.  Work cut out for Manning.  Long pass to Thomas and solid running by Magahee -- result in a score by Broncos. .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     . Saints go three and out, with a sack and fumble forced by Wesley Woodyard, and Denver gets the ball on the NO 46.  Denver on NO 43, after pass to Virgil Green. Magahee fumbles and NO recovers.  Brees throw to Colston for 1st down.  NO threatening from the Denver end of the field as 1st quarter ends.  Good pressure by Broncos, but Brees moves a la Aaron Rodgers and completes critical plays.  Denver's fumble probably cost them 6, for sure 3. . 2d Quarter  - Saints score on the first play of the 2d quarter on a Brees throw to Darren Sproles. 7-7 quickly in the 2d quarter.  Denver cannot seem to recover fumbles by either team even though they are all over them fairly frequently. .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                . Saints ball on the twenty, 1st and 10.  Mark Ingrahm up the middle for 3.  2d and 7.  D. Sproles picked up 1st down on short pass. 1st and 10 fir NO.  Sproles lost 3 on 1st down. 2d and 13.  Jimmy Graham picks up 1st down.  Thomas picks up 8, upended by Champ Baily.  2d and 2.  Pass play to Roby ruled a completion, but clearly hit the ground, so will probably be over-turned. So it will most likely be 3rd and 2 on the the Denver 47.   Time for pressure. Game still locked in a 7-7 tie. Incomplete pass, 4th and 2, Saints line up as if they are going to go for it.  They go for it and Wesley Woodyard intercepts the pass. .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 . Broncos ball, 1st down on their 44.  First play long pass to Thomas for 34 yds.  Mcgahee runs for 1st down, but holding call makes it 1st and 17.  Broncos turn 1st and 17 into first down, on holding penalty on Saints.  Ronnie Hillman runs for 7. 2d and three.  Hillman makes the 1st down, fumbles but after he was down.  1st down on No 13.  E. Broncos ball, 1st and 10 at the 13 yard line.  Mcgahee turns a 2nd and 2 into a 1st down with extra-effort and shifty moves.
