Category → Obama Should Fight For Wisconsin
By Peter Le Force — President Obama touted in his election campaign in 2008 that he supported unions. He said he would put on some “comfortable walking shoes” and join labor unions on the picket-lines as a show of support. Well, Mr. President, democracy awaits you in Wisconsin.
The President also said in his State-of-the-Union Speech in 2010 that the Supreme Court in its Citizens United ruling had put democracy in jeopardy. Well, we are watching that threat play out in real time in Wisconsin and other states, but the recall of Scott Walker in Wisconsin is the tangible push-back on union busting, austerity for the poor, more largess for the rich politics in the Citizens United era. Untold amounts of money are rolling in from right-wing interest groups all over the country because the extreme right wing plutocrats see Wisconsin as the beach head and potential temporary stumbling block for their “feed the rich only” political agenda.
Mr President, this is your time. Your country needs you to stand on the right side of history. Americans need to see you standing with the 99%. Wisconsin needs to you come there and stand with them because their cause it just. And you just may need the Wisconsin 99% come November. I doubt if the 1% are going to turn out in enormous numbers for you.
Mr. President, I believe that your showing up in Wisconsin may be pivotal to your re-election prospects in November, because the American people need to see that you will put it on the line for the American people — and if you do — the American people will put it on the line for you in November — because they will realize they have a real leader and a champion that they can count on. Wisconsin is really fighting your fight — you need to help Wisconsin fight that fight — and in so doing add fuel and fervor to the American people’s fight for Democracy.
