Democrats Must Give Their Base Reasons To Get Out And Vote In The 2014 Mid-Terms!

By Frank Byronn Glenn –– Republicans are always scrambling around furiously to give their base something to get out and vote for in mid-term elections.   It’s a strategy that has always seemed fairly transparent to Americans — particularly Democrats — not in the center of power in Washington.  Republicans do it so well that, sometimes, they get so far afield that they seem pretty crazy when they’re on the stump or in front of the television cameras.  They say things,  sometimes, that only the most crazed (borderline criminally insane, actually) of  their right wing constituency could cheer and rally out for.  Often these right wing  pedants lose elections in the end because they get swept up in the mania of hysterical support from the extreme right wing base  — that they lose their compass and forget how to tack the political winds and navigate changing political currents until it is too late — if they ever do recover.  It seems like after a while it becomes so intoxicating for Republican politicians to bask in the swells of wild support and psuedo approval —  at their crazy statements that — like any other addiction — they just can’t give it up when its time to tack to the center.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Democrats not so much.  Maybe it’s that Republicans always tout themselves as champions of value and freedom — Democrats, by contrast, aspire to model — and project — reason, fairness, and equanimity.  There’s a little ideologue and true-believer fanatic in all of us, but Democrats, no matter how they perceive themselves — or want to be perceived — have a need and desire to be excited, rallied, and exhorted out to do great things for the cause, too!  So my advice to Democrats  — the ones that can’t sing, don’t dance or preach sermons on Sunday — is to use a little of that considered intellect and psychology you value so highly.  If you can’t cheer lead  — strategize!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

In each of your states, put democratic “wedge issues” on the ballot:

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

.

1.  Do initiatives to put “legalization of marijuana for recreational use” on the ballot for every election.  Polls indicate the majority of Americans support legalization — and have stated that they would go out to vote specifically to vote in favor of that initiative.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

2.  Put an initiative to raise the minimum wage to $15 or higher on every election ballot in every state possible.  There is not much on the economic front these days to excite or encourage working Americans — but I guarantee you that the prospects of a minimum wage increase large enough to “actually” make a significant difference in their lives for a change would have working Americans turning out in droves  for the mid-terms.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

3.  Have a vote in every election on the issue of legalizing (“normalyzing”) same sex marriage in every state in the country.  It’s not so much that this is an issue with the ability to turn out the vote — but it certainly would drive up the turn out — because most Americans are at the “get over it” stage on this issue and they will turn out and vote just to try and make it go away forever.  They are tired of hearing about it — it’s so yesterday — or should be.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

4.  You could have votes to give every man, women and child a free education for life – – for as long as their abilities and inclinations would power them.  It might pass  — and it might not ever get implemented completely if it did — but admit it — it’s all of our Utopian vision of how the world would be —  if the world was the way it should be.  So Democrats would turn  out and vote — because their is great catharsis in demonstrably reaffirming your fondest dreams and aspirations from  time to time. Like every time there is an election.  That’s how we reaffirm our hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow!

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

5. Let’s vote to give everyone Medicare or Medicaid.  Only Republicans are against that.  And — just like there are slightly more sane people than crazy people in the world — there are slightly more Democrats and decent, thoughtful independents than there are Republicans — in most of the country.  That’s why Republicans lie a lot.  Because even if they got every right wing crazy that believed like they were  talking to come out and vote — it would still be true that the only way Republicans could win elections — with their plans and ideas –would be if Democrats and sane independents stayed home.   If you don’t have any water, you don’t need any buckets to carry it in.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

6.  Add in an initiative providing birth control and birth control counseling as part of preventive healthcare — and as such will be covered  by all healthcare plans at  no cost to the patient.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

7.  Include  an initiative to let decisions on abortions be the sole right and opportunity of every responsible expectant mother to be in America.   Prohibit unsolicited intrusions into that process by government or anyone else — under penalty of law.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

If Democrats could put all these measures on election ballots for the next three or four elections — it would create a “Tsunami” of a Democratic victory the effects of which would be felt for a decade or more at least  –– and if Democrats could get just one of two of them on each election ballot in each state in each election — Republicans would go the way of California Republicans and the whig party at an astonishing pace.  Maybe it always make sense to have a squawky adversary somewhere in the mix — to keep things loose — and to blame when miscalculations are made and laws and policies and positions encounter unanticipated fall-out  and push-back.  You can just blame it on your adversary — or use him/her to at least obfuscate the materials facts of the issue.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Anyway — instead of just sitting back and watching Republicans do everything they can to destroy America and undermine democracy — in the name of “freedom”  — it might be cathartic to be out in force each election — rhetorical “pitch-forks and Molotov cocktails” in hand — and just fight the phony son-sa-bitches — with their  lies and distortions  — until they give up or die of frustration — because they finally realize that they really are trying to sell ugly, smelly, and unsavory  “cow-shit” — to the stockyard clean-up crew  — and they know better.

Internal Investigators “Clear” Christie In Bridgegate Scandal — Lay Waste To Allegations The Gov Runs A Little On The Heavy Side!!

By Bifford Caulfield — The team of “internal investigators” cleared NJ Gov. Chris Christie of any wrongdoing in the George Washington Bridge – Fort Lee lane closings earlier today.  They also, in the same report, stated that the rumors and talk show musings about Gov Christie’s not so unsubstantial “girth” and rotundity were unfounded.   His size 65 inch  trouser waiste notwithstanding, Gov. Christie — the report also found — actually only weighs 155 lbs.  His appearance, the report said, is simply the result of Mr. Christie’s hyper-toned lean muscle mass projecting an inflated optical illusory impression of muscularity beyond his svelte body out-line and size 65 knickers.  …………………………………………….

As a demonstration of his ostentatious fitness — Mr Christie bench-pressed 75 lbs of Crispie-Creme donuts at a specially arranged press conference earlier today — then wolfed them  down “en mass” in one gigantic Christie-esque gulp.  Then Christie turned on the assembled press and bellowed– “What? — Are you news guys stupid?  Are your brains that absolutely dead?  Then he left without another word.  I guess he got them this time, his mind chortled in third person reference to himself as he lumbered toward his NJ state-issued, overload reinforced SUV.  Oh, I kid Gov. Christie — or should  I say, “his sevelt-ness!’

Surprise! Surprise! Chris Christies Personal Team of “Internal Investigators” Have Declared Him Innocent In Bridgegate!

By Frank Byronn GlennWere you all a blown away as I was that after his exhaustive “internal” investigation, the investigators he hand picked and handsomely paid to check it out  have concluded that Gov. Christie is innocent of any wrong doing in the Bridgegate scandal.  ……………………………………………………….

I must confess, though, I did have an inkling it might be coming when Christie’s vaunted, high priced team of investigators asked for all the documents related to the Hoboken Mayor’s allegations of abuse of power and coercion in the Sandy funds in exchange for political favors incident — you knew when they asked for any documents and emails related to the Mayor’s allegations were going to exonerate Christie of any wrong doing in George Washington bridge lane closures and the ensuring several day untenable traffic snarls that resulted.  It was just logic. Pure logic.  ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Senator John McCain — Shock! Shock! — Compares Putin To Hitler!

By Frank Byronn GlennJohn McCain continued his unbeaten streak of seeing Hitler behind every foreign affairs situation.  I  suspect John McCain has a perverse “bro-mance” of some kind with Hitler.  He see him behind every tree in the forest and — though he hasn’t admitted it yet — I suspect he sees Hitler in his dreams — just the “manly”, decisive part — you know —  the one that take tired of pols’ breath away.  ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Seriously.  Feckless pilot, prisoner of war, rat-your-country out John McCain sees   Hitler in lots of people lots of the time.  He thought Saddam Hussein was a lot like Hitler.  Syria’ s Assad gave McCain that Hitler-ian tingle in his leg.  Fidel Castro energized McCain Hitler antenna, turning the tips bright red (with little swastikas}.  Gadhafi fluttered McCains putter, too.  Hitler is McCains reason for war of last resort — so if he can accuse someone of being like Hitler — that means he can chant “bomb, bomb Iran” and everyone will mistakenly believe he is sane.  Sorry, Johnny — that ship has sailed.  No there’s no doubt that Putin is a tireless megalomaniac and an international bully besides, but if you accuse someone, some situation, some policy or some international action as resembling Hitler twice a week or so for 10 or 15 years — it just doesn’t have the same buzz after a while.  Come on Senator — use your tactical, military words to describe what Putin is up to — don’t just relegate him to the despots dust bins of  history.  Tell us what you think we ought to do about Putin — I mean — you know — besides launching World War III and the destruction of Earth as we know it.  Use some of that fine military acumen you have amassed as one of the great warriors of planet earth to guide us in this time of international and domestic peril.  ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Unless They Are Lying — Jindal, Republicans Have Nothing To Say About Anything!

By Frank Byronn Glenn — As corporatist Republicans continue their rabid attacks on ObamaCare, GOP governors like Bobby Jindal of Lousiana and others are finding it harder and harder to explain why they feel good about denying hundreds of thousands of citizens in their states adequate healthcare through the Medicaid expansion provided for by the Affordable Care Act.  As proponents of adequate healthcare for Americans dig in and refuse to back down from their insistence that these recalcitrant governors agree to expand Medicaid coverage for low-income citizens in their states, Bobby Jindal has come up with a new lie to explain his jaundiced reasoning. ……………………………………………………

In a lawsuit filed against MoveOn.org, demanding that the organization take down a billboard advocating for Medicaid Expansion, Jindal alleges that the reason he is against Medicaid expansion is that it discriminates against disabled Americans.  His logic is that any monies spent on Medicaid expansions is in and of itself an unnecessary and ill-advised decision to take money that would provide healthcare for the disabled and give it to the low-income people who would receive healthcare through Medicaid expansion — and he, Jindal — is a disabled Americans advocate — and he is just not going to let that happen to them.  ……………………………………………………………………………..

Shills for corporations and the wealthy have long espoused the mantra and exhorted  poor and disadvantaged people to believe it is other poor and disadvantaged people who are the cause of their misery and misfortune.  The “if only your lazy and unambitious neighbor wasn’t taking more than his/her fair share of the safety net money through greed and dishonesty — there would be enough help available for those like you who really need it”,  argument.   Failing to mention that just getting rid of “corporate welfare” and trimming a few unneeded billions from the Pentagon budget alone would probably feed, clothe, educate — and provide healthcare for every man, woman, and child in America………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

In short, Republicans like Jindal argue ferociously  –when they tell the truth at all — that to do anything at all for the middle class and the working poor in terms of government programs and policies might result in slowing down the corporations and the wealthy American’s desparate, pell mell plunge ahead to try and get even more fabulously richer before their tenuous time on earth is over.  Like the Koch Bros. who are already so fabulously wealthy they probably could not buy enough totally worthless things in 10 lifetimes to go actually go broke — battle like men fighting for lives to kill minimum wage so the working poor have no chance whatsoever to achieve a sustainable livelihood during their short, miserable lifetimes.  It is not just greedy, insensitive, uncaring and pernicious — it is actually mentally ill and deranged in my opinion.  When are we going to stop treating these billionaire kleptomaniacs as anything other than the homicidal, paranoid schizophrenic, megalomaniac predators on humanity that they are?

Romney’s Flap-Trap Mouth A Disservice To Even His Clap-Trap Brain!

By Tony Petramonaco — In the 2012 Presidential campaign, I found myself wondering from time to time how much better Mitt Romney might have fared if he could have controlled his impulse to “shoot from the hip” about things he knew next to nothing about.  Or to then speak the literal truth about his feelings, on tape,  when it came to talking with other rich people about how to deal with the problem of the 47% who just did not get — or have the god-given tools to figure out how to get rich — like he and his rich buddies did.   …………………………………………………………………..

Time and time again he stood up and bellowed in  his stentorian monotone some totally ridiculous opinion about something that he knew nothing about.  You wondered at the time if he was just rich and dumb — or maybe he just did not have the patience to actually absorb the information available or become conversant with the salient facts of the matters he was speaking about.  Ultimately, his campaign and his speech subjects and opinions were so “scatter-shot”, mis-informed, or so politically disingenuous  — that one finally had to conclude that, despite his enormous wealth, he just really wasn’t Presidential timber.  …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Now it’s not unusual for ambitious politicians who have nothing going for them but their desire to be something more important that their “mettle” in world affairs qualifies them for — to do and say absurd things — to get attention and try to appear to be relevant in national and international affairs.  But Mitt Romney, the politician, appears to be the unfortunate marriage between an ambitious but political novice afflicted with a motor mouth and the inability or the extreme disinclination to confer with or heed the words of anybody but perhaps his fluff-head wife and a few sycophantic cronies and hangers on who probably make a living by lurking around and surfacing in the small crowds Romney mingles with to belt out, “Ain’t Mitt swell?”  ………………………………………………………………………………….

He doesn’t just do something dull and boring like be-labor the obvious — he displays an uncanny knack to just “not get it”, when it comes to the obvious.  But that doesn’t deter him.  He steams ahead, self-importantly spouting his absurdities and his school girl naive ideas about the world, political figures and dynamic world events such that he repeatedly and continuously reveals himself to be almost a complete idiot and bull-shitter about the presumed important things he is talking about.  ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Poor Mitt.  I don’t know how he ever made a nickle in business or equities.  He not only doesn’t know when to hold them, and when to fold them — he has absolutely no idea what to hold, fold, or what to just ignore.  And worst of all, he just doesn’t get that he is completely irrelevant in American politics and world events — and that — kind of like we feel about Dick Cheney,  without the Darth Vader soul — no one — I say no one (who isn’t on his payroll) — cares one lick-spittle about what Mittens has to say about anything!

Maybe GOP Fawning Over Putin Would Favor Nationalizing Koch Bros. Oil Business?

By F Byronn Glenn — After this most recent week of Republican politicians fawning over Putin as an example of a great, decisive  “leader”,  praising his manliness as he invades and annexes Crimea, maybe they would like to consider doing a few other things that his extreme “manliness” has accomplished in the last decade or so………………………………

…………

…………

I, in particular, call their attention to how the great “leader” handled reputedly the richest man in Russia, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, when he had the cajones to organize opposition to Putin and some of his policies.  The way the great “leader” dealt with that was he “nationalized” Khodorkovsky’s company, Yukos Oil Co, merged it into the state oil company, Rosneft, confiscated most of Khodorkovsky’s wealth and assets, and then threw  him in jail for a decade or more.  Because Khodorkovsky disagreed with Putin on a some issues and policies…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

…….

If the Republicans love Putin so much, maybe they would support Barack Obama’s strong “leadership” if he decided that the Koch Bros. and other malevolent billionaires were evidencing behavior “detrimental to democracy” and the policies and programs of the duly elected President of the United States.  I mean, come on you Republican stalwarts.  That’s the man whose “leadership” you were praising.  Why can’t Barack be like the Putin you have this leadership “bro-mance” with? ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Maybe they would support Obama’s manly “leadership” if he recommended the government “nationalize” BP’s American assets, those of Duke Energy, and the assets Exxon Oil Co, for behavior detrimental to the well-being of not just President Obama himself, but his policies and programs — and every day Americans all over the country .

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

What do you say, Rudy?  Rand?  Ted?   Mr. McCain, his “feckless” honor?   You fellas want the kind of (sigh, ummm….) manly leadership Putin is displaying in the Russian Federation — and now Crimea — for these United States…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Well, actually — there are a lot of us that would agree with you.  We should “nationalize” a few of the biggest companies — split them up and sell them off to small entrepreneurs.  You know — the ones that are too small to succeed — but also too small and too democratically minded and who have too much personal integrity to try to corrupt our politicians, thwart our democracy, and skew public policy to effectively benefit and protect the financial well-being of just the few at the top of the food chain who have made it big in America.
