Paul Ryan Says States Have a Right to Legalize Marijuana If They Want To — Then – Oops! The Romney Campaign Clarifies — That Marijuana Should Not Be Legalized Under Any Circumstances — Because It Is A Gateway Drug!

By Bifford Caulfied – Paul Ryan said over the week-end that he thought states have the right to legalize marijuana if they want to.  Then, before you could say “spit” — the Romney campaign countered — and clarified — to say that it was the position of the Romney campaign that marijuana was a “gateway” drug — and therefore should never be legalized by anybody or any state — anywhere –  for any reason.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       .

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan should chat more.  Just to make it look good!

Romney Continues His “Etch-a-Sketch” Journey — Baffling, Befuddling, Perplexing, Shocking and Amusing the Media and the American People As Well!

By Frank Byronn Glenn -- In a sit down interview yesterday or the day before — Mitt Romney, to everyone’s surprise, simply stated out of the blue that he did not intend to get rid of “all” healthcare reform — that there were actually things that he “liked” in healthcare reform — and which he thought were good for the American people.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

For example, Romney said that he thought the ObamaCare prohibition against denying people healthcare insurance for having  “pre-existing conditions” was a good thing for the American people.  He said he liked the idea that young people could stay on their parents’ health insurance policies and thought it was a good thing — and even expanding on it a little — saying that he thought young people should be able to say on their parents healthcare insurance as long as they wanted.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

Understandably this change in position on healthcare created a huge buzz in the media — then within a couple of hours the Romney campaign issued an official “denial” of Romney’s interview statements — saying that Mitt Romney’s position on ObamaCare had no changed and that the still would work to repeal it on “day one” when he got in office.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

Now Romney has probably been planning to run for President since his dad’s failed Presidential campaign years ago — and has himself been actually running for President for a decade or more now.  He’s also a very rich man — so you have to assume that he has the best campaign advisers surrounding him that money can buy.   With that in mind, you kind of have to assume that these things that baffle us, that we think are gaffs, must actually be part of the Romney campaign strategy.  They must be convinced that they have enough money to spend on advertising that they can make anything that they want to be true — seem to be true to the American people.  They must believe that they can go on MSNBC and say things that will appeal to Democrats and independents — people who do not watch Fox — and influence some of those people to vote for them — without alienating any Foxx TV viewers — because the Foxx watchers do not watch MSNBC.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

Or they must believe that they have enough money that they can make alternate and in fact competing realities work in different segments of the voting public market — kind of like a market segmentation strategy businesses use for different prices and classes of products — because otherwise why would they go out there and say things that they know would alienate the far right extremists in the Republican party in front of progressive or more moderate audiences — and then officially deny that the words were ever spoken in a couple of hours — and then reiterate their “far right” positions emphatically on all the far right media outlets before the day is out.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

But one thing is clear — either the Romney campaign — and Romney himself — are so incompetent that they are just “winging it” hour by hour — day by day — or they have an almost unimaginably complex and byzantine strategy based on a pure propagandist view that they have enough money such that they can make Romney appear to be “all things” to “all people” enough times, consistently, in enough places — in front of enough different kinds of people — that somehow they can cobble together a collection of unlikely voters to combine with the far right extreme voting block that will probably support Romney no matter what — that combined with voter suppression, caging and all the other voter suppression strategy and a few voters “flipped” or outright stolen here and there they can eek out a victory in November.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

I just can’t for the life of me believe that the longer this goes on and the more the GOP and Romney are exposed for the charlatans they are — that they are going to be able to hold this surreal and cynical reality together well enough between now and November 6 to win the election — no matter how much money they have to spend to support a Romney created alternate reality.    I certainly hope this strategy fails.

Manning and the Broncos Beat Steelers 31-19!

By Frank Byronn Glenn – The last time the Steelers came to Denver it was for the play-off game that ended when Demaryius Thomas caught a pass from Tim Tebow and went 80 yards in the first possession in overtime to win it — last year.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       .

That seemed like light years ago now –as fan favorite and media darling Tebow is long departed to the NY Jets, and Peyton Manning begins his come-back from  multiple necks surgeries at center in Denver.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       .

Obviously fans have a high degree of anticipation for watching Peyton Manning behind center — its been a long time since John Elway was back there — but what I actually anticipate most is seeing a Denver defense that was good last year – when they had very little help from the offense — play with a frenzy when they have Peyton Manning on offense, so they don’t have to worry about getting burned once or twice a game.  The sacks, turn-overs, quarterback rushes and confusion they should be able to create with an all out push should easily more than make up for any occasional lapses on defense.  The Steelers will be a good team to go against out of the chute to get a feel for how it going to go this year.  Should be fun.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

Broncos – Steelers  — Sunday Night Football — Coming up!  It’s on.  War time!  Broncos – Steelers!  Denver and Peyton Manning win the toss — so Manning is the tip of the spear of the attack against the Steelers.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       .

Broncos defense holds the Steelers to a field goal for 3 points.   Manning takes the Broncos 80 yards in twelve plays with no huddle for the TD. Broncos 7, Pittsburgh 3.   Demaryus Thomas made two big catches in the drive.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       .

Demaryus Thomas catches 71 yard scoring strike from Manning and Tracy Porter intercepts “Big Ben” and goes for the pick – 6 to ice the game.  I don’t know what it looks like to anybody else, but it looks like the Broncos are great and Bronco fans are going to have a lot of fun this year.  Can’t wait.  Hello, Atlanta!

Bill Clinton Still Has the Republicans’ Number. The GOP talks, walks, and dreams crap!

By Frank Byronn Glenn -- In another masterful performance and elementary political lesson, Bill Clinton succinctly described the Republicans for the pretenders, losers, and frauds that they are — without ever saying anything harsh and nasty about them.  He broke the basic political choices and policies down into pieces small and uncomplicated enough that the “hogs” could eat it.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

But he captured the essence of the the way Barack Obama came into office and the game that the Republicans have played ever since in a brief little story:   “The Republicans left the President an economy that was a total mess, then when he didn’t fix it fast enough, the say “fire him and put us back in charge.”   Patently ridiculous!  What has a Republican ever done to deserve to be put back in office except to benefit those poor, dumb, predatory rich and  super rich campaign contributors of theirs.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

He said he couldn’t understand why Republicans are such haters these days.  And he can’t believe that after all the tries at governing — Republicans still can’t do arithmetic.  Just can’t figure it out!  Pretty funny — and sadly — quite true.

Michelle Obama The Best of Both Conventions So Far! Strickland, Duval Patrick, Harry Reid, Castro, Ledbetter — All First Class!

By Frank Byronn Glenn – Michelle Obama was easily the best speaker of either convention so far, pitch perfect, resonant, elegant, beautiful — emotionally riveting, and politically astute — as you might have expected.  It is no wonder the President and First Lady ended up man and wife — President and First Lady — they are certainly the most gifted and memorable Presidential two-some of the last 100 years.  Beautiful!

Romney Said At the Republican National Convention That He People Had Lost A Job That Paid $22.50 Per Hour and Replaced It With Two Jobs Making $9.00 Per Hour!

By Johnny Tremaine – Yeah, that’s right, Mitt!   People have lost decent paying jobs making $22 per hour — and had to take two jobs making $9 per hour — both at companies that Romney’s old company Bain Capital owns:   Sports Authority, where the average employee makes $9 dollars and pennies per hour — and Staples — where the average employee makes less than $9 per hour — but the two of them average out to about $9 per hour.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

That’d be MItt Romney and the Republican’s style all right.  Take away an eight hour job paying $22 per hour — and give you back two jobs  paying $9 per hour each — to replace them.  Two eight hour a day shifts — to take the place of one eight hour a day job.  Republican economics all the way!  Another good reason to kick Romney and Republicans in Congress right back to the curb — where they belong.

Jeb Bush Said At the Republican National Convention That He Was Proud of George W. — For Keeping the Country Safe!

By Bifford Caulfied – You can’t make up this bull pucky the Repugnant-ones keep coming up with.  Jeb Bush said that his grandfather and father had been conducted themselves with integrity and honor — and had served their country admirably.  “And my brother”, he said… “well, I love my brother.   And he did keep his country safe while he was President”.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        .

Jeb Bush, apparently in classic Republican selective memory mode, forgot all about the terrorist attacks on 9-11, in 2001.  The ones he was warned were coming by the CIA in August before they happened — while he was cooling his heels in Crawford.  Or maybe Jeb, like the famed Rip Van Winkle — has just been asleep on his feet for the last decade — or the last 40 or 50 years.   I certainly hope that if he has serious intentions of running for President of the United States himself in 2016 — that his mental condition and his memory improve substantially as the time to begin his campaign draws near.  Being President is kind of a multi-tasking, maintain your poise and keep your focus sharp type of job — or so I’ve been told.  But, Jebbie, you’re going to have to do  better than that if you’re seriously thinking about trying to complete a Bush Family “Hat Trick”.  Most of the American people are not as dumb  as your brother Georgie — nor as forgetful as you, Jebbie!

VP Candidate Paul Ryan Lies Again — That He Ran a Marathon Faster Than He Did!

By Tony Petramonico – How is it that you finally decide that someone is mentally ill.  Or has a problem that, even though they fight hard to disguise it, requires professional treatment — or intervention?

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         .

In a startling new chapter in the on-going saga of the Mitt Romney – Paul Ryan “Big Lie” Tour — Paul Ryan just lied about how fast his time was when he ran his marathon — and deliberately equivocated — attempting to give the impression that he actually ran more marathon’s than the single marathon on record that he ran.  He also said in his interview that he ran it in a little over and hour — while official records from the event show that he ran it in over 4 hours.  And a far as anyone knows — or can tell — or find — that is the only marathon that Paul Ryan has run in his life.  It’s hard to blame him for never running another — and it’s not even hard to understand why he gave up the sport after one try — with a time as bad as 4 hours and some such in the grueling run.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         .

But what we just cannot understand — is why a man who poses as a man of substantial enough character that we should elect him to be just a “heart-beat away” from the Presidency — when he is not even emotionally and psychologically healthy and mature enough that he can be counted on to be honest about a trivial thing like how fast he ran a marathon.  I mean — if you do not have enough guts to just say what your time honestly was — when asked — how could we ever trust you with the office of the Vice-Presidency — or — gasp! — the office of the Presidency itself.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      .

Americans are probably jaded enough by the many years of deception and chicanery that our political system offers up in the normal course of things — that it is used to politicians stretching the truth, or embellishing it — or twisting the facts a little to look a little bit more attractive to voters — but it is fairly rare that a serious Presidential ticket candidate lies this consistently — this universally — and now, predictably — when in fact the truth itself would not really have mattered much to people anyway — or, as we have said before — would actually have worked better.  It just boggles the mind why this little servant of the plutocrats can’t just go out there and do their bidding like the shameless Republican hack that he is — and take their money and get rich for serving money and power.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       .

But no — he doesn’t not even have the integrity or authenticity to just be who he is — take his licks — and get rich for it.  Oh, no — he can’t even stand to admit to himself he’s not perfect at everything — and lies to hide it, cover it up — embellish it — deny it — or blame the other guy for something he in fact did himself.   What a sad day for Republicans, Americans — and Paul Ryan’s mother, wife, children, friends, and fellow Republicans.  What a sad, sad day?

Ex-Senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota Criticizes California Democratic Chairman John Burton For Calling the “Big LIe” Strategy of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan Like the Nazi Propagandist — Goebbels!

By Robert Sexton – Hey, Norm!   If you think John Burton of California calling Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan’s big lies at the Republican National Convention reminiscent of Goebbels and the “big lie” propaganda machine of the Nazis in Germany under Adolf Hitler  — “getting down in the gutter”!   Better think again.  If you can!

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           .

Well, Norm…. if you don’t want the Democrats getting “down in the gutter” by calling Romney and Ryan out for their Goebbels-esque “bald-faced” big lies about President Obama and the Democrats  — then use your position as an advisor to Romney to advise him and Paul Ryan to quit lying.   Tell them to put forward some positive and useful policy ideas and proposals for the American people — and they won’t have to lie so much.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            .

In the meantime — if you don’t want to be called liars — then stop lying every time you open your mouths.  Pretty Simple!

“Dunderhead” Romney Tells Woman He Met Who Had Lost Her House in Hurricane Isaac — “Just Go Home and Call 911!”

By Bifford Caulfied – Yeah, right!  Thanks a lot, Mittens.  Now — we all know Romney misspeaks, can’t tell a joke, tries to be funny and can’t pull it off,  says things that reveal that he is not only a dufus and a strangely and curiously out of touch person — not just with the middle-class and working poor Americans — but with businessmen like himself, other Republicans — and most other human beings as well — without leaving them with the feeling that he is a “strange”, arrogant, and kind of “tone-deaf” and fairly dumb Presidential candidate.

.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        .

But even knowing all that — it is still a little eery to see a person who aspires to be the President of the United States advise a woman who has just told him that she has lost her house in Hurricane Isaac, to “Go home and call 9-11″.  I mean, that is rich indeed.  It’s not just that he’s tone-deaf — and perhaps can’t think very fast on his feet — I think the guy is an ignoramus who simply doesn’t have a clue how to do much of anything besides lay-off workers, cheat on taxes, and cry to the government to bail him out when he is about to lose his derriere – financially speaking.  “Go home and call 9-11?”   Hey, Mitt!   She doesn’t have a home anymore — she just told you that.  For my money,  Mitt Romney and his 2 bills passed sidekick just “ain’t happening’”.
